Circles & Waves (Trigonometry)

Topics: trigonometry, frequency, phase, waves

Grades: 9-12

Standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSF.TF.A.4, B.5

Duration to complete: 10-15 minutes

Learning outcome: Students will make connections between the unit circle and graphed sine/cosine functions. Students will understand the terms “frequency” and “phase”. Students will know how to mathematically transform a sine/cosine function to achieve different frequency and phase values.

Intro for students: In the land of trigonometry, circles and waves are related! A fish will make the introductions. A bee will show you frequency. And a hummingbird will demonstrate phase. All in the land of circles and waves.
